High School Students compete in Escape Room Challenge

Friday the 20th September saw almost fifty, year nine and ten students compete in the Flinders NT Escape Room Challenge.

During the school term, eight teams designed and built their own portable, health-themed escape rooms which were set up and judged at the Flinders University Campus in Darwin. Teams were randomly allocated a health care profession such as audiology, speech therapy, psychology and paramedicine. They were given 8 weeks, their allocated profession, a handful of props and a strict budget and challenged to use their ingenuity to weave these things into their escape room.

On competition day, between judging visits and trying out other schools’ entries, students were encouraged to mingle during a SmashChat networking session and to learn more about healthcare careers from tertiary students at pitchmyprofession.

The 8 student teams left the six judges amazed at their resourcefulness, teamwork, planning, dedication and research skills. After much deliberation, the following results were announced:

Winning Teams

  • 1st: ERParamedics (Darwin High School)
  • 2nd: Gee Vs O’Lochi (Darwin Middle School)
  • 3rd: McClappers (Palmerston College)

Schools are encouraged to use their prize-money for equipment or excursions that assist with STEM or health-based learning.

The other participating teams are to be commended for their fantastic efforts which provided hours of quality entertainment for the judges and other students.

  • MacKillop Eagles (MacKillop Catholic College)
  • Team Vuitton (Palmerston College)
