Fridays at the Library ‘Challenging the Challenges: How education turned my life around’

Dr Glen Edwards3.30pm, Friday 7 March 2014, Noel Stockdale Room, Central Library, Flinders University

Glen Edwards suffered a difficult childhood. After failing grade seven, he worked in various unskilled occupations, eventually entering the military and serving in Vietnam as a medic. On returning to Australia he was encouraged to leave the military and seek higher education. At 27 he completed his leaving and matriculation and went on to complete a Nursing Degree, then BA and Psychology degree at the Flinders University, studying full time and working part time to support his family.

Since then he has had a distinguished record in research, clinical work, lecturing and helping individuals who have PTSD and learning disabilities, travelling widely in the United States and Asia. The focus of his talk will be the challenges he has faced and overcome in his life, the benefits of education, and his endeavours to break down the stigma of mental illness.

Free entry, no booking required and light refreshments provided.
