Fridays at the Library presents “Steve Hemming and Daryle Rigney – Histories of attachment: Ngarrindjeri Nation Building and Caring for Country Programs”

Ngarrindjeri are engaged in a project of nation building and positive community transformation. Part of this project requires the development of new histories of attachment associated with projects such as Indigenous Caring for Country programs. This talk considers the intersections between existing histories of Ngarrindjeri people, land use and natural resource management and new Indigenous histories of attachment being produced as part of Ngarrindjeri Nation building programs. Flinders academics Steve Hemming from the Yunggorendi First Nations Centre for Higher Education and Research, and Daryle Rigney, Dean of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement, will consider the Ngarrindjeri nation’s Murray Futures projects as a case study in theorising these encounters in what can be understood as a contemporary contact zone.
