MDRI Director Prof Karen Reynolds and Deputy Director Prof Mark Taylor welcome Swedish Ambassador to Australia Pär Ahlberger to Flinders at Tonsley

The Swedish Ambassador to Australia, Pär Ahlberger, has visited Flinders University’s new Tonsley facility during his first official trip to Adelaide.

Mr Ahlberger, who has a strong interest in health and medical device technologies, met key members of Flinders’ Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI) including its Director, Professor Karen Reynolds, and Deputy Director, Professor Mark Taylor.

The Ambassador was welcomed to Tonsley by the SA Department of State Development’s Andrew Dickson and Flinders University International Centre Director Sebastian Raneskold – himself a Swede.

The influential Swedish group, which included Swedish Defence Attache Captain Karl Henriksson, the Swedish Honorary Consul in Adelaide Joshua Teague and four other Honorary Consuls from Brisbane, PNG, Hobart and Fiji, spent over an hour at Flinders’ medical devices, engineering and innovation hub.

Highlights of the visit included a tour of Tonsley’s Biomechanics Testing Lab and demonstration of the Hexapod Robot, developed to enhance understanding of 3D performance of normal and diseased joints by simulating complex joint motions.

The visit also included tours of the MDRI development lab led by Professor Karen Reynolds, the Motion Analysis Lab led by David Hobbs, and an overview of Computational Modelling capabilities by Professor Mark Taylor.

The visit was capped off with a tour of Flinders’ New Venture Institute led by NVI Deputy Director, Operations, Ben Flink.

Mr Ahlberger is just the latest in a string of high profile visitors to Tonsley in the past few months.
