Congratulations to Daniel Tune!!

Dr Daniel Tune, a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Centre for NanoScale Science and Technology, was announced as winner of the PhD Research Excellence – Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering award at this year’s SA Science Awards.

Daniel’s thesis was entitled “Single walled carbon nanotube photovoltaics”, his research investigated single walled carbon nanotube photovoltaics with the aim of developing a new generation of environmentally friendly solar cells. Carbon nanotubes have the potential to be used in window solar cells to absorb harmful UV radiation and turn it into electricity. Unlike other alternatives to the silicon used in today’s rooftop solar arrays, carbon is non-toxic and not limited in supply.

The Centre would also like to take this opportunity to wish Daniel the best of luck in his new position at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany.
