Plugins used by Flinders Blogs

The Flinders Blogs website is powered by WordPress MU the multiuser version of the popular WordPress blogging platform. We have extended the functionality of the system by using a number of plugins. Including some plugins that have been written in-house to meet the specific needs of our users.

This page will list the plugins that we have used, and where available copies of the plugins that we have developed as in-house released under a GPL licence.

In-house Developed plugins

  • Flinders Authentication
A plugin that will authenticate WordPress users using an LDAP directory or a URL generated by a WebCT system.
  • Flinders Comment Notify
A plugin that will send an email to the author of a post, and optionally the editors and administrators of the blog, when a new comment is added. This is particularly useful when access to your blog is restricted and providing an RSS feed is not possible.
  • Flinders Pending Review Notify
A plugin that will send an email to the editors, and optionally the administrators of a blog, when a new post is added and given the status of “pending review”. This is particularly useful for a collaborative blog where some contributors are adding posts that must be reviewed by an editor or blog administrator.
  • Flinders Category RSS Feeds
A plugin that will display a list of categories that contains links to the RSS feeds for each category.

Third Party Plugins

  • Akismet
Acts a second layer of defence in our battle against comment and link spam
  • Bad Behavior

  • BM Custom Login
Allows us to style the login box to keep a consistent look and feel
  • FireStats
Provides web analytics and web site statistics.
  • Subscribe 2
Allows us to manage a mailing list associated with our blogs. Very useful if RSS has been disabled due to content restrictions or to gain engagement from users who do not use RSS.
  • UnAPI Server
Automatically embeds machine readable metadata into posts.
  • Extra Feed Links
Used to provide additional links to the many RSS feeds available in a WordPress blog in the header of pages
  • MediaRSS
Used to add additional information to the RSS feeds so that it can be used internally by websites that are aggregating the feeds for display in web pages
  • Vipers Video Quicktags
Used to give our authors an easy way to embed videos into their posts
