Prof Fran Baum visited the University of Kyoto in January where she is a member of the International Panel of Advisors for the Inter-Graduate Program for Sustainable Development and Survivable Societies. While there she met with faculty members and students and contributed  to the conference on Energy and Environment. She reported that the interdisciplinary program is very impressive and includes many students from public health and global health who are given a wonderful opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues from disciplines such as engineering, environmental studies, social work and medicine on issues such as the safety of nuclear power.
