Prince Mahidol Awards Conference (PMAC) The Political Economy of Non-Communicable Disease, Bangkok, January 2019: Southgate Papers and Fran Baum Book Launch of Governing for Health

Professor Fran Baum was a speaker at the PMAC 2019 conference on the topic of the commercial determinants of NCDs. In her talk she described the Southgate Institute’s  work on developing a corporate health impact assessment framework and the pilot work describing its use on McDonalds in Australia (https://globalizationandhealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12992-016-0230-4) and Rio Tinto in Australia and South Africa (see paper at http://pmac2019.com/site/conferenceprogram/detail/PS%201.3) .  Professor Baum also reported on Southgate research on the links between urban planning and health (http://pmac2019.com/site/conferenceprogram/detail/Abstract%20Session%20Complement%20to%20Sub-theme%202) . While in Bangkok she also attended a three day meeting of the People’s Health Movement Global Steering Council which strategized about the PHM’s activities for the next years.

Professor Baum’s new book Governing for Health: Advancing Health and Equity through Advocacy and Policy which was published in January 2019 was launched by Professor David Sanders (Chair of the People’s Health Movement Global Steering Council and Emeritus Professor of Public Health, University of the Western Cape South Africa) at a lunch-time session at the conference.
