From YYZ to ADL (Or more like YYZ to LAX to AKL to SYD to ADL)

My name is Tyler Leece from York University in Toronto, Canada and I am currently on a full year exchange in Adelaide, Australia!

Before getting here, I didn’t know what to expect. ‘Will I have enough money? Will I make friends? Will I be able to live without the comforts of home for a whole year?’ were all questions that kept me up at night. The week leading up to leaving was filled with all sorts of emotions and despite months of careful planning, my departure date still managed to sneak up on me.

The flights here were almost trouble free except for the last leg. Miscommunication between airlines led to my late arrival, but in the end I got to Adelaide in one piece! After meeting my roommates and dropping my bags in my room, all I could think of was sleep.

The next day I woke up to 30 degree weather and full sun, (a big change from -35 and snow in Toronto!). Instantly, I had the biggest smile on my face and all my troubles seemed to melt away. My adventure abroad had just begun and I couldn’t be any more excited!

I’m looking forward to everything that is to come and couldn’t be happier with my choice being here in Australia. After all, when you’ve found paradise, how can you be sad?
