I was inspired to apply for the New Colombo Plan (NCP) mobility grant as it is an exciting opportunity to promote further development, both on an academic and a personal level. As Australia and Malaysia have enjoyed a significant history of cooperation, the NCP mobility grant’s study of, and exposure to, the cultural, historical, economic and political development of Malaysia will significantly enhance my understanding of one of Australia’s most important regional strategic partners. This will be a very welcome outcome as, to date, my only direct experience of Malaysia is of its international airport during a long-haul flight stop-over! Speaking of travel, this aspect of scholarship participation was also very attractive to me, as travel is a very effective vehicle in assisting the development of a broader personal global perspective, while also increasing an individual’s personal confidence and resilience capabilities.

Via participation in the NCP mobility grant, I expect to increase my knowledge of Malaysian culture, including its heritage sites, customs and rituals. I am also hoping to develop new connections with other participating students – both international and local – who will hopefully then form part of my ongoing academic/professional and personal networks.

I am confident that participation in the NCP mobility grant will contribute significantly to the achievement of my career aspirations and am greatly looking forward to it commencing!
