I work in an OT specific role within a Specialised Community Mental Health Team – Psychosis<\/p>\n
I do OT assessments and the OT Clinic offers 1:1 sessions for sensory modulation, living skills and other interventions to support consumers’ recovery, group therapy sessions to build daily living skills and improve self-regulation skills.<\/p>\n
Seeing patients work towards and gain skills to help them manage on a day-to-day basis.<\/p>\n
Becoming clinically respected amongst my peers and senior clinicians.<\/p>\n
Being trusted by consumers, I feel privileged that they feel safe and trust me by sharing their personal stories<\/p>\n
Working together as a team (staff and students) you can achieve more and support each other through challenges.<\/p>\n
I made lasting friendships with staff and students, I am grateful.<\/p>\n
You can always learn and don’t be afraid – it does work out.<\/p>\n
The first year is the hardest, ask questions and use all the supports the university offers as it makes a difference. If you can connect with a mentor do it they can point you in the right direction and have small tips and tricks which help.<\/p>\n
Trust your teachers and tutors, seek their help – they are not trying to make it hard or trick you.<\/p>\n
