{"id":779,"date":"2021-01-27T12:02:33","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T01:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/alumni-stories\/?p=779"},"modified":"2021-01-27T12:09:51","modified_gmt":"2021-01-27T01:39:51","slug":"nayantaranambiar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/alumni-stories\/2021\/01\/27\/nayantaranambiar\/","title":{"rendered":"The gift of speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"rte text\">\n<div class=\"cmp-text\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rte text\">\n<div class=\"cmp-text\">\n<p><strong><span class=\"text_size_large\"><br \/>\nSpeech Pathologist Nayantara Nambiar (MSpPath &#8217;19) came to study at Flinders University with a passion for helping people communicate with the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rte text\">\n<div class=\"cmp-text\">\n<p>Nayantara graduated from the Master of Speech Pathology in 2019, and a year later is back home in Chennai, India, sharing her knowledge through her new role as a Speech Pathologist at the Brain Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Unified Brain Health Care (UBHC).<\/p>\n<p>Discovering Speech Pathology inspired Nayantara to choose Flinders to pursue her studies and make a difference in the lives of those who struggle with language and communication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always wanted to be in a field that helped or served people and once I found Speech Pathology, there was no looking back,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel very grateful that I get a chance to empower people\u2019s voices and support their right to communicate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Partnering her Flinders education and experience with the dream of helping those with speech difficulties, Nayantara is able to deliver Speech Pathology in a unique way, opening her mind to the diversity of the profession in a different culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy time at Flinders has made me more broad-minded and more accepting of diversity. It has taught me new methods of learning and the latest techniques in my field. The support I received for the extra-curricular activities I pursued, drove me to continue them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nayantara gained insight in the Australian speech pathology industry by doing placement with the Department for Education in South Australia.<\/p>\n<p>She was then offered a role as a Speech Pathologist at the Port Augusta office where she worked for six months before returning to India.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA placement with the Department for Education during my degree gave me a foundation for my work with the same organisation,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving heard about working in the remote regions of Australia, from my classmates and through my degree, I always had an interest in working in such an environment and in working with the Aboriginal communities. The complex cultural, linguistic and socio-economic background of the community and the support of an excellent team allowed me to learn and develop many unique skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rte text\">\n<div class=\"cmp-text\">\n<p>Nayantara now hopes to make a difference at home, focussing on Speech Pathology within the education system in India.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to bring my learning from Australia to India and further the development of Speech Pathology practice in my city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Speech Pathology practice has not yet evolved into mainstream schools, my dream would be to set up this practice as I have seen the benefits of working with children with speech and language difficulties in the education system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her most recent role as a Speech Pathologist at UBHC in India marks the start of a new chapter for Nayantara\u2019s important work with speech and education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rte text\">\n<div class=\"cmp-text\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/study\/courses\/bachelor-speech-pathology\">Learn more about studying Speech Pathology at Flinders<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Speech Pathologist Nayantara Nambiar (MSpPath &#8217;19) came to study at Flinders University with a passion for helping people communicate with the world.\u00a0 Nayantara graduated from the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3211,"featured_media":780,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[829,2075,2597,1228],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-779","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-college-of-nursing-and-health-sciences","category-study-health","category-our-recent-graduates","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
