Education and Training News

Coral Trowbridge

In keeping with the spring season there is new growth and change within the Education & Training team. Coral Trowbridge is retiring after 10 years with FHBHRU and is looking forward to the next stage of her life. Vee Pols is also semi-retired and enjoying spending more time travelling and with family and friends. Both will continue to assist with FHBHRU training activities during peak times. On behalf of FHBHRU I wish to thank them both very much for their valuable contributions to the growth of the Flinders Program over many years.

In the last newsletter we introduced the new team members Katy Ricketts and Susan Tappin. Both have been kept very busy with a wide range of training activities, including delivering sessions to allied health professionals, students from nutrition, dietetics, physiotherapy and medicine. Our professional staff team members, Adriana Turner and Sue Pfitzner, are an essential part of the team and certainly help to keep the wheels turning.

Our collaboration with WA Country Health Service (WACHS) continues with the first sponsored graduate due to complete their studies this semester. System-wide initiatives supporting workforce capability and capacity in self-management support continue to be developed and refined through this ongoing collaboration.

Another new project for the team is our work with Country SA PHN in the provision of Flinders Program training for the workforce involved with the Health Care Homes sites across regional SA. Country SA PHN is funding access to online Flinders Program training and a series of one-day workshops to build workforce skills in chronic condition self-management support. Please contact the team to discuss your eligibility for the training ccm@flinders.edu.au

Motivational Interviewing training has continued to be much in demand. A recent update has been made to the Flinders Program website https://www.flindersprogram.com.au/ which now includes a tab dedicated to open source MI strategies, resources, videos and literature.
