{"id":204,"date":"2020-12-03T13:14:56","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T02:44:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/behavioural-health-news\/?p=204"},"modified":"2020-12-03T13:14:56","modified_gmt":"2020-12-03T02:44:56","slug":"exhibition-shares-fitness-through-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/behavioural-health-news\/2020\/12\/03\/exhibition-shares-fitness-through-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Exhibition shares fitness through COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"entry-title\">Exhibition shares fitness through COVID-19<\/h1>\n<p>An online exhibition is sharing the physical activity experiences of Flinders University students during the pandemic, and inviting the University community to get involved by submitting their own photos.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Finding a Way, Physical Activity During COVID-19: A Photovoice Project\u2019 launched on the Flinders University website on Monday, 9 November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by Behavioural Health in the College of Medicine and Public Health, the exhibition forms part of a research project that uses participants\u2019 photos and commentary to gain insight into their experiences, presenting an exploration of the collective experience through the lens of students\u2019 cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Candice Oster, Behavioural Health lecturer and project lead, says the impact of COVID-19 on participating students had \u201cforced us to look inwards, to slow down, to focus on what\u2019s most important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One student said the project gave her \u201cpermission to look at things differently and try and interpret situations differently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being able to share their struggles and triumphs relating to physical activity during the pandemic has proven to be a powerful and enjoyable experience for many students involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really grateful for this opportunity, because I\u2019ve actually discovered I\u2019m much more of an optimist than I thought I was\u201d, another student shared.<\/p>\n<p>The title and exhibition represent the shared understanding of physical activity during COVID-19 generated by a first-person perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinding a Way represents the sense of struggle and overcoming of adversity described by the students, and also reflects their experience of physical activity as movement and progression,\u201d Dr Oster said.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition displays the results of the analysis sequentially, dividing the students\u2019 photos into four themes: With a Little Help, Connection to Space, Moments of Joy and Making Gains.<\/p>\n<p>It shares the motivation and support students found for continuing physical activity despite the limits of COVID-19 with help from pets, family, friends and the community;
