Welcome Dr David Panter – the new Chair of Flinders University Caring Futures Institute External Strategic Advisory Board

 

We are delighted to welcome Dr David Panter as the new Chair of our Institute External Strategic Advisory Board.

Originally a psychologist, David’s extensive career in health, community, and social care spans over 45 years across Australia and the United Kingdom. His dedication and leadership have significantly impacted various sectors. Here are some of his notable achievements:

  • Chief Executive for over 30 years in aged care, hospital, community, and primary care services.
  • Recruited to the South Australian public health system in 2004 to lead reforms from the Government Generational Health Review, including the development of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.
  • Led the transformation of aged care provider ECH after leaving government in 2015.
  • Chief Executive at Minda since January 2022.
  • Committed to human rights and ensuring services respond to the diversity of Australian communities.
  • Chair of the SA Council of Social Service until the end of 2024.
  • Director of the Australian Council of Social Service for the last eight years.
  • Appointed Adjunct Professor of Flinders University, College of Nursing and Health Science in 2024.

David’s career reflects a profound commitment to improving health and social care services, advocating for human rights, and addressing the diverse needs of communities. With extensive human services sector experience, business acumen and corporate governance expertise, he has been a member of the Caring Futures Institute External Strategic Advisory Board for the past two years and will Chair this board from this year.

The Institute External Strategic Advisory Board provide advice to the Institute leadership on the development and delivery of its strategic objectives, identify and discuss emerging strategic issues and foster development of authentic engagement with strategic partners and end users.

The Caring Futures Institute team are grateful to Adjunct Professor Debra Thoms, Commonwealth Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (2015-2019), who served as the inaugural Chair of the Institute External Strategic Advisory Board for the past three years.

The Institute executive team welcome Dr Panter’s appointment and look forward to working with him and the members of the board to continue growth in Flinders and Nursing and Health Sciences research that is delivers impact.
