{"id":627,"date":"2021-10-28T15:35:44","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T05:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/caring-futures-institute\/?p=627"},"modified":"2021-10-28T15:35:44","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T05:05:44","slug":"what-does-the-future-hold-for-the-nutrition-and-dietetics-profession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/caring-futures-institute\/2021\/10\/28\/what-does-the-future-hold-for-the-nutrition-and-dietetics-profession\/","title":{"rendered":"What does the future hold for the Nutrition and Dietetics profession?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Caring Futures Institute researchers have helped determine priorities set to shape the education, research and workforce needs of the Nutrition and Dietetics profession into the future.<\/p>\n<p>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/people\/john.coveney\">John Coveney<\/a> was among 68 professionals who contributed to an exploratory qualitative study, helping inform the <a href=\"http:\/\/dieteticdeans.com\/research.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Towards 2030 &#8211; Reimagining the Future of Nutrition and Dietetics in Australia and New Zealand&#8221;<\/a> report.<\/p>\n<p>Published by the Council of Deans of Nutrition and Dietetics Australia and New Zealand, the report highlights the ways qualified nutrition professionals will cater to increasingly diverse needs within the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers were keen to ascertain where professionals are likely to work in years to come and what is needed to produce an agile, impactful workforce.<\/p>\n<p>Interviewees had experience in a diverse range of areas, with everything from elite sports nutrition to mental health experts represented.<\/p>\n<p>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/people\/rebecca.golley\">Rebecca Golley<\/a> represents Flinders University on the Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiet is key to lifelong health and wellbeing,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This seminal report outlines the workforce of the future capable of tackling global challenges to human and planetary health.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_145\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-145\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-145\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/caring-futures-institute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2020\/03\/CaringFutures_RebeccaGolley-1.jpg.flinders-image.4000.low_-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/caring-futures-institute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2020\/03\/CaringFutures_RebeccaGolley-1.jpg.flinders-image.4000.low_-1.jpg 770w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/caring-futures-institute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2020\/03\/CaringFutures_RebeccaGolley-1.jpg.flinders-image.4000.low_-1-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/caring-futures-institute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2020\/03\/CaringFutures_RebeccaGolley-1.jpg.flinders-image.4000.low_-1-768x520.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-145\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professor Rebecca Golley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Six emerging roles, sixteen critical capabilities and five actions were identified, with the aim of enhancing and strengthening the profession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoles such as \u2018Nutrition knowledge translators\u2019, \u2018Equity champions\u2019 or &#8216;Diet optimizers for an ageing population&#8217; outlined in the report align with the education and research offering here at Flinders,\u201d says Professor Golley.<\/p>\n<p>The Council argues the report is a call to stakeholders from within and outside the profession, to ensure that a skilled workforce is available everywhere it&#8217;s needed.<\/p>\n<p>The research aligns with the Council&#8217;s mission of ensuring that the skilled nutrition and dietetics graduates and the resulting professional workforce continues to expand into the key roles where they are most needed for human and planetary health, now and into the future.<\/p>\n<p>The report can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/dieteticdeans.com\/research.php\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Caring Futures Institute researchers have helped determine priorities set to shape the education, research and workforce needs of the Nutrition and Dietetics profession into the future.
