Exploring an Online Engagement Framework: elements and strategies to support student learning and success<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Covid pandemic has thrown into sharp focus the vital need to maintain connection with our students. For many of us more used to the nuances of face to face engagement, the online realm posed new and interesting challenges. Research tells us that student engagement has a positive correlation to student success, motivation, persistence, and course completion, so how can we enable engagement in the virtual domain? What strategies can we use in our teaching and pedagogical design to encourage the types of engagement critical to improving students\u2019 learning experiences and outcomes?<\/p>\n

Join Dr Alice Brown and Professor Petrea Redmond in this interactive, engaging webinar as they revisit key features and elements of engagement (cognitive, social, behavioural, collaborative, and emotional) referred to in their seminal paper that introduced an online engagement framework for higher education (Redmond, et.al., 2018<\/a>). The importance of engagement and teacher presence for student success, outcomes and the student experience will be discussed, and participants will be encouraged to share their strategies and ideas on how they address elements of the framework in their teaching.<\/p>\n

Bios
\n<\/strong>Dr Alice Brown is a Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Education at the University of Southern Queensland. She is an innovative and award-winning educator who leads practice and research focussed on advancing learning, teaching and student success through online engagement. Alice has co-written numerous books, chapters and papers addressing online pedagogy, applying \u2018nudging\u2019 to support online student engagement, and the highly cited paper which outlines a framework for online engagement in higher education (Redmond, et.al., 2018<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Professor Petrea Redmond is Professor of Digital Pedagogies and Associate Head of School \u2013 Research in the School of Education at the University of Southern Queensland. A recipient of local and national awards for teaching and research, Petrea has over 30 years\u2019 experience teaching in various educational contexts, and her research is situated in interrelated fields of educational technology including (but not limited to): Online engagement; Online presence; Teaching presence; and Cognitive presence. She has published and co-published in several international refereed books, journals and conference proceedings and was lead author of the highly cited paper outlining a framework for online engagement in higher education (Redmond, et.al., 2018<\/a>). Petrea is currently the Associate Chair, Consultative Council, Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) and is on the Executive committee for Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
