{"id":1325,"date":"2022-07-13T16:12:26","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T06:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/cilt\/?p=1325"},"modified":"2023-06-27T13:57:00","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T04:27:00","slug":"resources-to-support-career-education-in-teaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/cilt\/2022\/07\/13\/resources-to-support-career-education-in-teaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources to support career education in teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Careers and Employability team offer a variety of resources for teaching staff to help improve student skills, knowledge, confidence and connections in managing their careers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flinders Employability Toolkit<br \/>\n<\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/staff.flinders.edu.au\/learning-teaching\/employability-toolkit\">11 tasks \u2013 with optional rubrics<\/a> \u2013 bring together foundational career education and navigation activities. Teaching staff are encouraged to use these as a guide and adapt them for purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Aligned to each task, we are currently developing <strong>20-30 minute teaching activities<\/strong> that can be run during lectures or tutorials. These will be launched later in Semester 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Hacks workshops<br \/>\n<\/strong>We run regular Job Hacks workshops throughout the year including for career planning, job search, LinkedIn, selection criteria and interview skills. These may be used to support teaching or promoted directly to students. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/careerhub.flinders.edu.au\/students\/events\/Type\/38\/job-hacks\">schedule here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course-specific resources<br \/>\n<\/strong>Other resources that can be used to support teaching include College-based <a href=\"https:\/\/careerhub.flinders.edu.au\/students\/infoPages\/detail\/9\/supportandresources\">course specific resources<\/a><u>*<\/u> and a growing suite of <a href=\"https:\/\/flo.flinders.edu.au\/mod\/page\/view.php?id=2731577\">career development recordings<\/a><u>**<\/u> (20-60 minutes) \u2013 on career planning, job search strategies, resumes, cover letters, selection criteria, interviews, networking and graduate programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Industry guest lectures<br \/>\n<\/strong>Teaching staff who would like to include a guest lecture from an industry partner are encouraged to contact Robyn Gamble <a href=\"mailto:robyn.gamble@flinders.edu.au\">robyn.gamble@flinders.edu.au<\/a>. Guest lectures are flexible but often 30 minutes, with a technical focus complemented by information on employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job vacancies<br \/>\n<\/strong>Careers and online learning are currently exploring how we might incorporate a live feed of relevant job vacancies from Flinders CareerHub onto FLO topic sites.
