Date: Thursday October 26th<\/sup> 9.00am \u2013 11.00am<\/strong><\/p>\n In the mid-2000s, universities became increasingly aware of Communities of Practice (CoPs) as potentially powerful processes of informal social learning in the workplace. This led to a more deliberate approach within universities to harness their potential to enhance learning and teaching practice. However, despite the theoretical promise of CoPs, over time their contribution and value to a university\u2019s strategic goals has been questioned. There are two major causes for this: the first is the difficulty in demonstrating their value to the university, and the second is the difficulty in engaging and maintaining the commitment of time-poor colleagues.
