This can be through a degree or College-specific mentoring program, or the central mentoring program run by the Transition Office. College-based mentoring programs have now been running for several weeks, and the Transition Office are busy allocating mentors for commencing students enrolled in degrees where there is no College-based mentor program. Mentor training workshops are run by the Transitions Office for both College-based mentors and Transition Office mentors. Contact the <a href=\"mailto:transition@flinders.edu.au\">Transition Office<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peer-Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Transition Office is running a new program aimed at enhancing learning and fostering engagement for first year students in high failure rate topics. The program is called PASS (Peer-Assisted Study Sessions) and it is currently being trialled in two topics. PASS sessions are based on a group study session model: sessions are small, with no more than 20 students, and held weekly for about an hour. They are facilitated by PASS Leaders &#8211; students who have previously passed the topic. PASS Leaders assist with content understanding, the development of study skills and the identification and implementation of learning strategies suited to the particular subject area.<\/p>\n<p>The Transition Office is looking to continue these sessions in second semester. If you have a second semester topic that has had a high failure rate and you think this type of support might be suitable, please contact either <a href=\"mailto:salah.kutieleh@flinders.edu.au\">Salah Kutieleh<\/a> or <a href=\"mailto:irene.belperio@flinders.edu.au\">Irene Belperio<\/a> in the Transition Office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UniLEAP Program <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/study\/pathways\/year-12-entry\/unileap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flinders UniLEAP<\/a> is designed to prepare students who have recently completed SACE but received an ATAR below the University\u2019s entry requirement. The curriculum is designed to cover six broad components: an introduction to university, academic writing, research skills, critical thinking, statistical literacy, and digital literacy. Assessment tasks are designed to ensure participating students demonstrate their competency in these six areas. This year, 53 students commenced UniLEAP, and 29 received and accepted SATAC offers for undergraduate degrees during the program.
