Each month we will share some of our timely frequently asked questions around educational technology.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Q: <\/strong>Can I display a letter grade instead of a number grade?
\n<\/strong>To display a grade item in your gradebook as a letter grade, first go to \u2018Gradebook setup\u2019 (Administration menu > Gradebook setup). In the list of grade items, loc\"\"<\/strong>ate the item that you want to change. Click on the \u2018Edit\u2019 link in the \u2018Actions\u2019 column (far right) and choose \u2018Edit settings\u2019 from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

On the settings page, in the \u2018Grade item\u2019 section, click the \u2018Show more\u2026\u2019 link. Locate the \u2018Grade display type\u2019 and select the required type from the drop-down menu:<\/p>\n

The \u2018Letter\u2019 option will display the grade for that item in the gradebook as HD, DN, CR, P or F. The \u2018Letter (percentage)\u2019 option will display a letter grade followed by (in parenthesis) the value of the grade as a percentage, and the \u2018Letter (real)\u2019 option will display the letter grade followed by (in parenthesis) the actual numerical grade for that item. If you are using letter grades it is best practice to be consistent and apply it to all assessment items.<\/p>\n

Q: <\/strong>How can I view the gradebook as a student to check what they can and can’t see?
\n<\/strong>To check what students can see in the gradebook, go to \u2018Gradebook setup\u2019 (Administration menu > Gradebook setup). Click on the \u2018View\u2019 tab, and then click on the \u2018User report\u2019 option:
\n\"\"<\/strong>You can view the report as either a single student or all students in a scrollable list by choosing the required item from the \u2018Select all or one user\u2019 drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

Then choose \u2018User\u2019 from the \u2018View report as\u2019 drop-down menu. This will then list all the grades that have been configured as \u2018visible\u2019 to the student(s).<\/p>\n
