{"id":206,"date":"2021-03-02T10:28:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-01T23:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/doorstop\/?p=206"},"modified":"2021-03-02T11:01:07","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T00:31:07","slug":"defence-and-veteran-suicide-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/doorstop\/2021\/03\/02\/defence-and-veteran-suicide-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"Defence and Veteran Suicide: Prevention through Understanding &#8211;\u00a0Research Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hosted by the National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>10 \u2013 11 March 2021, <\/strong><strong>Canberra \/ Live-streamed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention will host the first research symposium in March 2021. \u201cDefence and Veteran Suicide: Prevention through Understanding\u201d will bring together academics, practitioners, and other key speakers to discuss mental health and suicide in the Defence and Veteran community.<\/p>\n<p>The keynote address will be delivered by Christine Morgan, CEO of the National Mental Health Commission and National Suicide Prevention Adviser to the Prime Minister. Presenters include Open Door&#8217;s Professor Sharon Lawn, who will discuss Veteran Wellbeing and Support.<\/p>\n<p>From the event website: &#8220;The role of the interim National Commissioner includes commencing work on the Independent Review of Past Defence and Veteran Suicides. The Independent Review will provide the National Commissioner with further insights and a deeper understanding as to why these tragic deaths are happening and to prevent future suicides in the defence and veteran community. Dr Boss is deeply committed to making a difference through her inquiries, findings and recommendations. Through this research symposium the expertise and knowledge of the speakers will provide crucial insights to support the work of the National Commissioner to make a difference to serving members, veterans and their families. This information will add to the valuable insights gained through engagement with members, veterans, families and community groups.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Conference papers will be published on the event page\u00a0after the event.<\/p>\n<p>Registration costs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Free to live stream.<\/li>\n<li>In-person attendance &#8211; $100 per day.
