{"id":904,"date":"2021-01-15T10:23:55","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T23:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fcic-now\/?p=904"},"modified":"2021-01-15T10:26:39","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T23:56:39","slug":"mrff-genomics-health-futures-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fcic-now\/2021\/01\/15\/mrff-genomics-health-futures-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"MRFF Genomics Health Futures Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This\u00a0MRFF\u00a0call focuses on innovation in three streams:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><u>*Stream 1<\/u><\/b><u>\u00a0(Targeted Call for Research)<\/u>: identify and diagnose novel &#8211; primarily monogenic or oligogenic &#8211; rare diseases and increase the genomic diagnostic rate towards 70% by 2025.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>*Stream 2<\/u><\/b><u>\u00a0(Targeted Call for Research):<\/u>\u00a0improve early detection and targeted treatment for the most common cancers to reduce the burden of disease. Research proposals in this stream must focus on one of the following topics:<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<b>Topic A<\/b>: discover clinically relevant biomarkers to improve early detection of common cancers<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<b>Topic B<\/b>: develop genomic tools and technologies to identify genetic predisposition to cancer and improve screening and targeted intervention<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<b>Topic C<\/b>: develop genomic screening tools for predictive disease modelling and to guide therapy.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>*Stream 3<\/u><\/b><u>\u00a0(Targeted Call for Research):<\/u>\u00a0promote diagnostic effectiveness and efficiency through better understanding of the impact of genetic variants through functional genomics by establishing a national functional genomics approach to enhance novel gene discoveries, increase diagnostic rates and enable disease modelling to support development of targeted therapies.
