Fuel your head and heart with art

Flinders University Art Museum is an extraordinary resource, housing more than 5,500 works of art on campus and presenting a dynamic program of exhibitions and related public events through the City Gallery.

The Art Museum is now hosting Spinifex Country, curated by Heidi Pitman with Fiona Salmon, until December 8 across two sites; the Flinders University City Gallery, located in the State Library of South Australia, and the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery (Special Exhibitions), located in the South Australian Museum.

Comprising material culture, historic photographs and contemporary works of art – including important works from Flinders University and South Australian Museum Collections – Spinifex Country explores the enduring significance of spinifex to Aboriginal people and their communities while also reflecting ways in which this uniquely Australian grass has taken hold in the imagination of non-indigenous others.

The City Gallery shop (co-located with the Gallery), offers original art and craft, giftware and books sourced from Aboriginal communities and ethical, collaborative enterprises. This includes paintings, prints, sculpture, jewellery and basketry by emerging and established artists and unique, high-quality giftware. Fine art cards can also be found, along with a wide selection of children’s books, as well as FUAM exhibition catalogues.

All staff members are entitled to a 10 per cent  discount on purchase on presentation of their staff card.

Gallery hours: Tuesday – Friday 11am – 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 4pm
