Summer Teaching begins in January

Flinders University will offer will a formal summer teaching period for the first time in January and February 2014.

Summer topics have been promoted via an email to all students as well as social media.

The introduction of the summer teaching period aims to:

• enhance the capacity for the University to market the availability of summer topics to internal and cross-institutional students;

• provide students with an opportunity to accelerate their studies;

• provide students with an opportunity to make up or repeat topics which they may have failed, assisting students with course progression; and

• provide Schools with the opportunity to offer elective topics that are particularly popular with students or in niche areas that have the potential to attract cross-institutional enrolment.

Essential Information regarding the summer teaching period:

• The summer teaching period will start on 2 January 2014 and end on Friday 21 February 2014.

• All assessment, including examinations must occur within the summer teaching period.

• Students must not be compelled to take a summer topic to complete the requirements of their course.

• There will be centrally administered examinations for summer topics held on Thursday 20 February and Friday 21 February.

• The drop-in service for students in the Writing Centre and Maths Centre will be available from 28 January.

• The following food and beverages services will be available during the summer teaching period:

a) The Refectory, Subway and Decafe will be trading throughout January and February;

b) The Coffee Cart, Wholefood Shop and Blue Duck open mid-January.
