Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration by Professor Patrick Dodson

The Dunstan Foundation and Flinders University are presenting the 2014 Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration with Professor Patrick Dodson on 27 May.

Professor Dodson will speak about the history of the Recognise movement and provide an understanding of its importance in the lead up to the proposed referendum on the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian Constitution.

A Yawuru man from Broome in WA, Professor Dodson has dedicated his life work to advocacy for constructive relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people based on mutual respect, understanding and dialogue. He is a recipient of the Sydney International Peace prize.

He was a Royal Commissioner into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, inaugural Chair of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation and Co-Chair of the Expert Panel for Constitutional Recognition of Indigenous Australians.
