Flinders City Gallery: After Afghanistan

Quilty picThe Art Museum is now hosting Ben Quilty: After Afghanistan, until 30 November at the Flinders University City Gallery, located in the State Library of South Australia.

Ben Quilty spent three months in Afghanistan as an official war artist for the Australian War Memorial in 2011. During this time he observed the experiences of Australian servicemen and women serving in Kabul, Kandahar and Tarin Kot as part of Operation Slipper. The result of this engagement, After Afghanistan comprises large-scale studio paintings and works on paper exposing the intense physicality of the soldiers and the emotional and psychological consequences of their service. The City Gallery shop (co-located with the Gallery), offers original art and craft, giftware and books sourced from Aboriginal communities and ethical, collaborative enterprises. This includes paintings, prints, sculpture, jewellery and basketry by emerging and established artists and unique, high-quality giftware. Fine art cards can also be found, along with a wide selection of children’s books, as well as FUAM exhibition catalogues.

All staff members are entitled to a 10% discount on purchase on presentation of their staff card.

Gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday 11am – 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 4pm.
Admission is free.
