Rural clinical school joins winners in regional awards

Brand SAFour more Flinders-sponsored awards have been presented in the Education Category of the South Australian Regional Awards at recent ceremonies for the Limestone Coast, the Yorke and Mid-North, the Hills and Coast and the Murraylands.

In the Murraylands, the Flinders University Rural Clinical School based at Renmark won the Health Category.

Multimedia agency Hello Friday won the Limestone Coast’s Education Award for its successful launch of a children’s character called George the Farmer, whose aim is to educate children about farming practices, food and fibre production and to inspire creativity in young Australians about their passions.

Stephanie Kriewaldt, a teacher at the Vineyard Lutheran College in Clare, received the Yorke and Mid North Education Award for her work in devising innovative approaches to the maths and sciences curriculum, using digital code writing skills to improve maths skills and to increase engagement and divergent thinking skills.

The Hills and Coast Education award went to Mount Barker High School for introducing Positive Education into everyday teaching to immunise young people against mental health issues. In the past 12 months, some 3,100 students have been have been encouraged to seek and discover their unique character strengths.

The Education Award for the Murraylands went to Mypolonga Primary School for its numeracy program that involves running a retail shop to sell craft and other items, encouraging skills through calculating sales, change and commissions. With 2015 being their third win, the School was also inducted into the Regional Awards’ Hall of Fame.
