Remembering Christina Rossetti in the Fringe

RosettiSpecial Collections Librarian Dr Gillian Dooley is part of a Fringe show dedicated to 19th century poet and muse Christina Rossetti.

From the famous Christmas carol ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ to the poignant beauty of ‘Remember’, from the ecstasy of ‘A Birthday’ to the enigmatic ‘Echo’, Rossetti’s poems have been set to music by dozens of composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst and Adelaide composers Anne Cawrse and Alistair Knight.

Gillian, with fellow singers Nicola Hardie-Campbell and Catherine Cox and Alistair Knight at the piano, will explore a selection of the settings of her poems for solo voice and vocal ensemble, while Adelaide poet Gregg Hammond sheds light upon her life and times.

Christina Rossetti: Remember will be performed at 3pm on Sunday 28 February in St John’s Anglican Church Hall, 379 Halifax Street, Adelaide. Tickets at $15/$10 can be booked through FringeTix here.
