Carers SA achievement award for Professor Sharon Lawn

Professor Sharon Lawn has won the prestigious Carers SA Carer Achievement Award at the 2016 Community Achievement Awards.

Professor Lawn was one of nine category winners announced on Saturday night at the Hilton Adelaide.

Guests included Zoe Bettison MP, South Australia’s Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion.

The awards are given to celebrate South Australia’s high achievers and community contributors.

Professor Lawn has been caring for her husband who has significant mental illness and psychosocial disability, since 2002.

Sharon is a mother and a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Flinders University and has personally dealt with Post Traumatic Stress and a serious tremor.

Working with the Private Mental Health Consumer Care Network, the Australian Borderline Personality Disorder Foundation and the Mental Health Coalition of SA, she advocates for people who experience mental illness and their carers.
