CSEM students dig deep for Cyber Security Challenge

Sixteen Flinders students will put months of hacking training into practice this week as they pit their skills against students from across Australia at the 2017 Cybersecurity Challenge.

A team of 24 Flinders first years through to third years have been meeting every week since last October to improve their penetration testing (or ‘hacking’) skills and cybersecurity awareness.

Four teams of four have now been selected to participate in the Australian Government run 24 hour endurance test.

Flinders, which has placed well in recent years, will again pit their skills against cyber security kingpins UniNSW, but would happily settle for placing highest in the South Australian category.

“Regardless of placing, this kind of event is building the guardians of our future security, and is very important in my opinion,” says Lecturer Romana Challans.

“But then, I think that these students are pretty amazing all round, so I’ll be proud of them regardless.”
