Breaking new ground thanks to ARC funding

Professor Martin Westwell

Flinders University is excited to announce that Professor Peter Cook and Professor Craig Simmons are part of a new ARC Linkage Project grant worth $620,000.

Professor Martin Westwell, meanwhile, is part of a recent ARC Linkage Project grant worth $546,000, which he shares with the University of Queensland and the University of Melbourne.

Professor Cook and Professor Simmons’ funding will allow them to continue their research into how surface groundwater affects the ecology of ephemeral streams, with a focus on the Pilbara region of north-western Australia.

Findings from the study, which is being led by the University of Western Australia in cooperation with Rio Tinto, will be used to prevent unwanted environmental outcomes of mining on groundwater resources.

Professor Westwell’s project team will investigate how student literacy and teaching quality can be improved in Australian primary schools by coaching teachers in effective feedback practice.
