Partnership with Indonesia strengthened

Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling has met with the new Indonesian Ambassador to Australia and Vanuatu, His Excellency Mr Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo, as part of the 2017 Indonesia Council Open Conference that was launched yesterday at Flinders.

Professor Stirling has used this opportunity to reiterate Flinders’ commitment to supporting the Australia – Indonesia relationship through education.

The Indonesia Council Open Conference is a biennial event that provides an opportunity for Australian and Indonesian scholars to engage in meaningful and rewarding conversations about contemporary issues, and identify opportunities for ongoing partnership.

The conference attracts participants from all over Australia and many other parts of the world.

The theme of this year’s conference is Indonesia and Australia: Youth, New Media and Everyday Politics.

Flinders has been building links in education, language, culture and research with Indonesia for the past 50 years and has actively strengthened engagement with one of our most influential neighbours through the Jembatan initiative.
