Lunchtime music concert tomorrow

The next Flinders lunchtime music concert will be held tomorrow (9 August) at 1.00pm in the Noel Stockdale Room in the Central Library.

Gillian Dooley and members of the Flinders University Chamber Ensemble will perform the music of Jane Austen.

This will include Scottish folk songs and arias and songs by Gluck, Georgiana Cavendish and Charles Dibdin.

Gillian Dooley is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Humanities.

She has been researching the music of Jane Austen’s life and work for more than 20 years, and since 2007 has presented many concerts of the music from the Austen family collections.

This lunchtime concert will be her first collaboration with the Flinders University Chamber Ensemble, which has been a focus for music-making on campus for many years.

The concert will also feature readings of Jane Austen’s novels and other literary works by Emeritus Professor Vincent Megaw, distinguished archaeologist and ‘Austenite’.

Although Jane Austen died in July 1817, her influence is still very much alive.

This concert is part of the Immortal Austen – Haunted Campus event series at Flinders during August 2017.

Entry is by donation at the door.
