New research direction at Flinders

A fresh approach to research under new leadership is a feature of Flinders University’s academic and professional restructure.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Rob Saint says he’s pleased to announce that Jodieann Dawe has been selected to head the University’s new look research entity, now known as Research Development and Support.

Ms Dawe is an experienced senior executive whose most recent role has been National Manager, Research and Engagement, at the National Council for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER).

She has previously worked at the Department of Transport and Infrastructure, Water Research Australia, Meat and Livestock Australia, DSTO and roles with Arc@UNSW and Unisearch at UNSW.

A Flinders science graduate (Hons), Ms Dawe also has qualifications in Business Administration and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

“We’re delighted to welcome Ms Dawe back to Flinders, for this important role in fostering and promoting our research excellence,” Professor Saint says.

“She’ll lead a newly transformed Research Development and Support division, formerly known as our Research Services Office, which has been transformed and expanded with new responsibilities covering intellectual property and commercialisation.”

“Flinders has a proud reputation as a globally focused, locally engaged university that’s renowned for its research excellence – we’re looking forward to harnessing Ms Dawe’s considerable experience to grow our strengths across our research areas and help propel our life-changing breakthroughs out of the lab and into the world,” Professor Saint says.

Ms Dawe takes up the role on 6 September 2017.

Professor Saint thanks and acknowledges the service and commitment of outgoing Research Services Office Director Dr Gayle Morris, and also expresses thanks for the past year of dedicated and professional work of Acting RSO Director Tom Symonds, who returns to the College of Medicine and Public Health.
