Buildings and Property recognised for innovation

Flinders has won the Innovation Award from the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association (TEFMA) for its new cleaning model implemented in 2016.

The TEFMA Innovation Award is bestowed in conjunction with AECOM and recognises individuals or institutions that have developed an innovative new practice or physical development that has improved the delivery, efficiency and effectiveness of facilities services.

Flinders collaborated with its provider ISS Australia to successfully change the cleaning schedule at the Bedford Park and Tonsley campuses from night to day cleaning, and in doing so, not only achieved cost savings and reduced the number of cleaning complaints received from staff, but also significantly improved relationships between the cleaning and professional staff of the University.

The transition from night to day cleaning also improved cleaning practices and retention of cleaning staff, increased the uptake of recycling, and strenghthened communication between cleaning staff and the Flinders community.

The Innovation Award was announced last night, 18 September 2017, at the 2017 TEFMA Annual Awards Dinner in Melbourne.
