Centre for Neuroscience turns 40

The Flinders Centre for Neuroscience has celebrated its 40th anniversary (1977-2017) with wine, cheese and a lively discussion of future directions for neuroscience.

The festivities included a ‘From Bench to Bedside’ session in which researchers and clinicians explained the translation of research to clinical practice.

They also included a panel discussion on the history of neuroscience and a showcase of research projects currently underway at the Centre.

More than 100 past and present alumni of the Centre journeyed back to Bedford Park to reminisce over the Centre’s early years, including founding members Laurie Geffen AM, John Chalmers AC, Ian Chubb AC, John Willoughby and Robert Rush.

Other early alumni such as Janet Keast and John Furness travelled from interstate to join the celebrations.

The anniversary event ended with a special artistic performance by Life Members of the Centre, Professor Marcello Costa and Emeritus Professor Ian Gibbins.

The celebrations were sponsored by the Australasian Neuroscience Society, the South Australian Neuroscience Institute, Flinders University and Flinders Health Research Week.

Photos from the event can be viewed on the Centre for Neuroscience website.
