IDS team takes out Okta prize

In a first for higher education, Flinders University’s single sign-on program using the Okta platform was recently recognised with a prize for implementation at a global conference for the software system.

The dashboard created by Information and Digital Services (IDS) brought together nearly 50 of the University’s core digital services in one place, and created a smoother process for activation and self-service.

The seven-person team from IDS was awarded an Okta customer award during the event, Oktane17, which was held in Las Vegas from 28-30 August 2017.

This is the first time an Okta customer award has been won by a Higher Education organisation and the first time it has been awarded to an Asia Pacific organisation.

The award recognised the teaching role the team played as they shared the implementation journey with a number of other universities and organisations across Australia.

Rolled out at Flinders University in September 2016, the Identity and Access Management Program delivered single sign-on to 37,000 users with the implementation of the Flinders Dashboard, hosted by Okta.

In just 12 months, staff and students have accessed the application 20 million times.

The IDS team is grateful to all the stakeholders and users who helped them achieve this milestone.
