Rural pharmacy expert joins NT’s first clinical senate

Flinders pharmacy lecturer Toby Speare has been invited to join the newly formed Northern Territory Clinical Senate and will help lead improvements to patient safety and clinical care across the Northern Territory.

The Northern Territory Clinical Senate is an advisory body that has been established to provide strategic policy advice to the Northern Territory Department of Health regarding the clinical governance and performance of the public health system.

Toby currently lectures in Remote Pharmacy at the Centre for Remote Health in Alice Springs.

He has significant experience in pharmacy practice, having worked across the realms of clinical pharmacy, retail pharmacy, and pharmacy education both here and overseas, and is a passionate advocate for the health of remote populations.

The Northern Territory Clinical Senate includes 36 multi-disciplinary clinicians and consumers with appropriate skills and experience in clinical quality and patient safety systems and processes from across the broader Northern Territory health system.

The first meeting of the Northern Territory Clinical Senate took place on 1 December 2017 in Darwin.

More information about the Senate is available from the Northern Territory Government website.
