Flinders celebrates launch of New Colombo Plan Alumni Program

Flinders staff have participated in the launch event of the South Australian New Colombo Plan Alumni Program, which will be championed at Flinders by Program Ambassador Fawaaz Karim (pictured, far left).

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) Alumni Program is open to all NCP scholarship and mobility students on completion of their award, and offers participants access to exclusive networking events, professional development and mentoring opportunities and membership of a growing Indo-Pacific community.

This year the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, announced that 39 students had been chosen to be Ambassadors for the NCP Alumni Program, charged with promoting the NCP and the value of Indo-Pacific study and work placements to fellow students.

Fawaaz Karim, a current Flinders student and NCP alumnus, holds the position of Ambassador for the NCP Alumni Program at Flinders University.

His success reflects the long history of international engagement at Flinders, which has recently been bolstered by new grant funding from the Australian Government, which includes NCP and Endeavour Mobility Grants that will support a range of student mobility programs at Flinders.

To celebrate this success, academic and professional staff were recently invited by Sebastian Raneskold, Vice-President and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), together with the Learn Without Borders Team, to attend a special gathering to acknowledge the contribution of the international team to securing the future of Flinders’ student mobility programs.

The new funding will equip Flinders students with fantastic opportunities to develop the skills required to prosper in the global workplace through a range of international placements and internships.

In 2016, more than 700 Flinders students took advantage of Flinders’ student mobility programs to study overseas and earn credit for their degrees while travelling the world.

It is hoped that the latest round of rounding will enable yet more Flinders students to embark upon outbound study experiences at one of the University’s partner institutions across the globe.

Flinders staff and students interested in Flinders’ student mobility programs are invited to contact the Learn Without Borders Team for advice.
