Opportunity to get personal with future employers

Flinders’ Careers and Employability Service is hosting a suite of new-format ‘career forums’ in March 2018 that will bring students and recent graduates into contact with ten industry partners and foster meaningful conversations about future employment and career options.

Branded as ‘Joblink Summits’, the career forums replace the old-fashioned ‘career expo’ model and allow potential employers to address all attendees in a conference-style format before hosting smaller information sessions with interested students.

It is anticipated that this new approach will streamline the provision of information and enhance the quality of interactions between students and industry partners.

“Based on industry and student feedback, we recognised the declining effectiveness of the traditional careers fair,” says Flinders University Employer Liaison and Recruitment Coordinator, Philippa Spencer.

“We wanted to create an event that would help students explore potential career pathways while providing a more effective platform for industry to share information about jobs.

“A new event concept was presented to industry last year, which was very well received.

“The new format offers a reduced number of carefully selected industry partners the opportunity to connect with a large number of students and recent graduates, encouraging deeper and more personalised conversations,” Ms Spencer says.

The South Australian Government has signed on as a Major Sponsor of Flinders’ Joblink Summits and will leverage the new platform to promote the new ‘I WORK FOR SA’ jobs portal.

The Joblink Summits are open to all current Flinders University students and recent graduates.
