Congratulations Indofest

One of South Australia’s most loved cultural festivals has been recognised in the annual South Australian Governor’s Multicultural Awards.

Indofest has celebrated the rich contribution of Indonesian culture to South Australia for ten years, with a colourful and immersive festival showcasing the best of Indonesian music, dance, performance, food and more.

Flinders is a proud supporter of the festival, which is presented by the Australia Indonesia Association of SA. Our support extends beyond just sponsorship; Co-Artistic Directors Abby Witts and Brett Calliss are both Flinders alumni, and AIA-SA President Firda Firdaus has had a long association with Flinders as a member of teaching staff.

Indofest won the Arts and Culture Organisation category of the awards, with the judges’ citation stating:

For the past ten years Indofest has showcased and promoted the diversity of Indonesian culture. In recent years, the event has grown significantly, and now reaches out to deliver workshops and entertainment to South Australian schools with Indonesian programs. Judges commended Indofest’s core aim of seeking out opportunities to foster peace, harmony and engagement.

After accepting the award from His Excellency the Governor of South Australia Hieu Van Le, Ibu Firdaus was full of praise for the people who have dedicated themselves to Indofest’s success.

“The AIA-SA wishes to congratulate the whole Indonesian community in Adelaide for their fantastic achievement, effort, support, and the semangat of Gotong Royong to share our mission! This award is very much YOUR AWARD and we all should feel very proud of it. Thank you all and keep up the good work. Indonesia maju bersama” she said.

Vice President and Pro Vice-Chancellor International Sebastian Raneskold warmly congratulated Indofest for its award-winning achievements, which complement Flinders’ ongoing commitment to Indonesian language and culture teaching and learning.
