A spectacular farewell event celebrated the 105-year-old Her Majesty’s Theatre, with famed Flinders University alumni sharing the song and dance extravaganza.
Flinders’ Emeritus Professor of Drama, Michael Morley, accompanied singer/writer/director Robyn Archer, who holds a doctorate from Flinders University, in a fitting performance of The Bilbao Song. A tale of past glories and lost memories, the song is one of the greatest and best known Brecht/Weill tunes and tells of a fictitious dance hall that was closed down and subsequently renovated.
Entertainer extraordinaire Cameron Goodall, who graduated from Flinders in 2000, performed a number of songs including several from ‘The Sound of Falling Stars’, a production which has earned Mr Goodall and the show’s writer-director, Robyn Archer, rave reviews.
Performing on the night were Tim Rogers; Michael Morley; Cameron Goodall; Robyn Archer; Ali McGregor; Michaela Burger; Nancy Hayes; Joanna Allen; Meow-Meow; Jane Doyle; Rob Mills and Peter Goers (pictured above, from left to right.)
The event raised over $50,000 to contribute to the theatre’s two year renovation, which will see it reopen in brilliant glory and able to accommodate the biggest and most dazzling of contemporary productions.
