Social work lab opens door to real-world practice

A state-of-the-art social work lab designed to give students real-world placement preparation will be officially launched on 10 May 2018.

Equipped with the latest in audio-visual equipment, Flinders University’s custom-built ‘Social Work Practice Skills and Simulations Lab’ provides seven interview rooms, a central hub and hot desks for students. It will help prepare students for placements through practical coaching sessions that use scenario simulations and recordings.

Students will work in pairs or small groups in a safe but realistic environment, receiving feedback from staff and peers. The training will provide valuable experience and is ultimately expected to enhance the future employability of graduates.

The Lab differentiates Flinders from other universities, through providing an exciting experimental space for innovative participatory research undertaken with industry partners.
