Flinders splendour in virtual reality

A suite of 360-degree virtual reality videos are immersing prospective students in the Flinders world, with eight engaging study area tours and two campus walk-throughs recently completed and available online.

The project, which commenced in October 2017, provides a unique opportunity for the University to showcase its facilities and study areas through videos that tell a story and inspire people to study at Flinders.

The videos were created by the Office of Student Recruitment and the Office of Communication, Marketing & Engagement for use at career fairs and school events as well as online, to give prospective students a taste of life at Flinders.

Manager of the Prospective Students Team, Jarrad Benson, says the project provides great opportunities for place-making at Flinders, particularly within regional areas where students may not have an opportunity to visit the campus.

“The feedback from students and teachers at the recent Tertiary Studies and Careers Expo was overwhelmingly positive, with students lining up to check out their preferred study areas in virtual reality,” Mr Benson said.

“Research indicates that students who don’t have the opportunity to visit the University are unlikely to consider Flinders in their university choices in the future. The videos enable students to feel like they’re actually on campus and learn about what they might study in the process.”
