Controversial topics headline free lecture suite

Never shy to tackle the challenging, Flinders is exploring nuclear waste, corporate welfare, Indonesian politics and philosophising the end of life in a suite of free events.

 Law’s Responsibility for Corporate Irresponsibility – How has it come about that a different set of rules apply in the corporate sphere?

Professor Harry Glasbeek of York University will present on the extent of welfare enabled by allowing entrepreneurs to use corporate frameworks.

Hot Issues in the Outback: Nuclear Waste

Fulbright Flinders/Carnegie Mellon University Distinguished Chair in Applied Public Policy, Dr Allison Macfarlane, will present her research on nuclear waste facilities at a free public lecture. Possible sites, political contexts and lessons from overseas will be included in the controversial topic.

Think Global: The Jowoki Presidency in Indonesia Critical Reflections

Flinders’ Dr Priyambudi Sulistiyanto will discuss how President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has survived and managed through the political, economic, and social upheavals in Indonesia over past three years. Based on Dr Sulistiyanto’s recently published chapter in Southeast Asian Affairs 2018.

The Priest and the Academic talk about end of life

The emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of the end of life will be explored at a panel discussion led by Flinders’ Kim Devery and Reverend Mara Di Francesco, Rector and Parish Priest.

This is a free event, with an optional lunch to follow at a cost of $15.
