Solar car park ups the wattage

Construction of a solar car park is underway in car park three. This significant project will soon see on-campus renewable energy generation boosted to almost 20% of the total power used by the Flinders main campus.

Almost 3800 solar panels are being installed – resulting in shaded, undercover parking in semester 2.

These panels are in addition to the recent installation of over 1600 panels across the Information Science and Technology, Engineering, Physical Sciences, Student Centre, Health Science and Health Sciences Lecture Theatre buildings.

The combined panels will generate an estimated 2700MWh per annum, substantially reducing our operational costs in the future and showcasing our ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Future works will result in further improvements for pedestrians and landscaping – providing enhanced amenity for car park 3.

While the works are underway, staff are asked to allow extra time to find a park and consider using car park 12 (oval). The oval shuttle bus leaves from the entrance to car park 12 and runs to Registry, Education (and Sturt if required) on demand from 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday.

In addition, car park attendants will help people to find available parks in car park 2 and advise of alternative car parks when it reaches capacity.

During these works, consider sharing a ride if possible or contact Adelaide Metro for information about buses.
