Popular management tool set to roll-out

In response to the popularity of a free task management tool among Flinders staff, the University has decided to invest in the licensed version which offers additional benefits.

Trello is a useful online task management system that helps people organise work, plan and manage projects, including collaboration with other teams. It has more than 25 million users worldwide and has become one of the most popular collaboration and work management tools in the world.

There are different types of accounts available including a free version – which staff are welcome to create here.

However the ‘Business Class’ licensed version provides additional security features and flexibility to manage projects and tasks, and is the version the University will be supporting.

Trello rollout

The number of University staff using the free version of Trello during the pilot project grew quickly from tens of users to more than 700.

While the organic uptake has been welcome, the free version has limitations and some risks – including needing to ensure boards are not publicly available, inviting new members, disabling member permission and using the free ‘PowerUp’ feature.

Detailed guidance on using the free version is available on the Flinders website.

With the strong uptake of the free version, IDS is now investigating the best way to license and roll-out the paid version, including staff training and support. Further information available in coming weeks.

Digital Workplace project

The roll-out of Trello Business Class is part of a broader University project called ‘Digital Workplace’ which involves IDS investing to improve collaboration between staff and across teams, regardless of their location or device.

As part of this project, training, guidelines and coordinated support will be provided to staff for specific tools including OneDrive, Teams and Trello.

A website will be launched soon with further information. In the meantime, please contact the University’s trello support team for questions about the management tool.
