Indonesian celebrations and influence together with history and archaeology offerings provide a rich schedule of free events on campus this week.

Indonesian influence – three generations of the Kella family

Dr Priyambudi Sulistiyanto of the College of Business, Government and Law will present on his paper which examines the emergence of the powerful Kalla family in Eastern Indonesia.

His talk will trace the historical factors under which the Kalla family survived and expanded in their business and political activities over three generations.

Dr Sulistiyanto’s paper poses questions such as: How did the Kalla family use wealth and power to make them powerful economically and politically in Eastern Indonesia? What are the findings that tell us more about the rise of local dynastic family and political economy of Eastern Indonesia?

Indopendence Day  

Hosted by the South Australian Indonesian Students’ Association and the Australian Indonesian Association, Indopendence Day is a fun day for the whole family to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day with food, music, entertainment and stalls.

Where: The Hub, Flinders University Bedford Park campus

History Seminar  

Dr Evan Smith will present a talk on ‘ASIO and Irish Republicanism during the “Troubles’” for this week’s History Seminar.

These seminars are open to the public and include a 45-minute talk, plus time for questions.
