Tai Chi a springboard to fitness

Tai Chi is set to commence at Flinders Sport and Fitness and feedback is being sought to inform class times – or staff can look into the other fitness options on offer, including many that are just 30 minutes long.

Flinders Sport and Fitness has received a number of requests for Tai Chi and are working on a timetable that best suits the needs of staff and students’ busy lifestyles – take the one minute survey.

Flinders is focused on the health and well being of its community. In addition to the exceptional services available at its fitness centre, the University provides a landscape of rolling hills and scenic pathways – warming up with the change of season – to get the heart and muscles pumping.

Research indicates

  • Only 52 per cent of adult South Australians are physically active enough to benefit their health.
  • At least 17 per cent of adult South Australians are almost totally inactive.
  • Physical inactivity doubles the chance of a heart problem.
  • Physical inactivity increases the risk of developing some cancers.

The good news

  • Just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days will make a difference.
  • Walking, swimming, dancing or cycling are great ways to be more active.
  • The health benefits of regular activity take effect quickly.

Or there are a range of classes on campus at Bedford Park, offered across the day, that are just 30 minutes long. Classes are included in membership prices, or $5 for a casual visit. View the current timetable at the Flinders Sport and Fitness website.
